Cheers to International Sauvignon Blanc Day

Join Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia on May 3rd to celebrate International Sauvignon Blanc Day!

Sauvignon Blanc has emerged as a remarkable success story within the Australian wine industry, swiftly becoming the second most prominent white wine grape variety following Chardonnay's lead in 2014. Flourishing in regions characterised by a combination of cool temperatures and ample sunlight, Sauvignon Blanc thrives in areas influenced by ocean breezes or elevated terrains. Its cultivation spans diverse Australian landscapes, from the warm 'river' regions to the cooler climates of the Adelaide Hills and Tasmania. Notably, it finds particular acclaim in the maritime climate of Margaret River, often featured in blends alongside Semillon.

Renowned for its light-bodied character and vibrant, distinctive flavours, Sauvignon Blanc offers versatility, with oaked and unoaked versions catering to varied preferences and desired styles.

Here are four of our Ultimate Wineries, who produce their own unique style of Sauvignon Blanc:

Dominique Portet's Sauvignon Blanc is crafted with carefully picked fruit pressed and fermented in French oak barrels, creating a vibrant wine with green apple, stone fruit, and tropical notes. This refined white offers complexity and freshness, perfect for enjoyment over the next few years.

Discover more about Dominique Portet's wines on an André Experience: a behind-the-scenes tour led by wine educators, followed by a tutored wine tasting in the André room featuring current Yarra Valley releases, including single vineyard wines and the flagship André Cabernet Sauvignon, and French family classics paired with matching wines at the cellar door.

Printhie Wines, Orange, NSW
Printhie's Mountain Range Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from one of Australia's highest vineyards. Bursting with intense aromas of ripe citrus peel, fresh grass, passionfruit, and guava, this mouthwatering wine offers a seriously refreshing palate with juicy fruit and zingy acidity.

Pair your bottle of Printhie's Sauvignon Blanc with the ultimate day-cation experience - a Printhie Picnic among the vineyards and vintage apple orchards. Relax on a picnic blanket, taking in sweeping views of lush hillsides, and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch prepared by the Printhie Dining kitchen. Complete your experience with a guided tasting of selected Printhie wines.

Sauvignon Blanc thrives on south and east-facing slopes of Leeuwin Estate. A significant portion of the Sauvignon Blanc destined for Art Series and Siblings Sauvignon Blanc Semillon undergoes fermentation in second and third-use French Oak barriques, aging for seven and four months, respectively, adding complexity to these renowned wines.

Why not embark on a Seasonal Experience: Art, Wine & Farm to Fork Indulgence at Leeuwin Estate, starting with a glass of sparkling Brut and an introduction to their winemaking philosophy. This is followed by a tour of the Leeuwin Art Gallery showcasing contemporary Australian artworks, a tutored tasting of five wines paired with West Australian delicacies, and a three-course seasonal lunch in the Leeuwin Restaurant complemented by perfectly paired Art Series wines.

Sauvignon Blanc production in Tasmania benefits from the island's cool climate, resulting in wines characterised by vibrant acidity, elegant fruit flavours, and distinctive aromatic profiles. Moorilla Estate's Praxis Sauvignon Blanc is a very traditional yet surprisingly rich wine, with classic Sauvignon notes of nettle, snow pea, and gooseberry.
